The first large-scale solo exhibition by knitting artist Juha Vehmaanperä, Craft Punk, opens at the Gallery of the Architecture & Design Museum on 20 February 2026.
Juha Vehmaanperä is a knitting artist whose work focuses on slow fashion, queer theory and craft-based knowledge. Their projects combine traditional handcraft techniques with contemporary approaches and technologies. Vehmaanperä’s practice is characterised by community-oriented working methods, the promotion of DIY culture and the renewal of craft traditions.
Presented at the Architecture & Design Museum, Craft Punk is Vehmaanperä’s first major solo exhibition. It brings together key works from recent years, material experiments, insights into the artist’s working process and participatory, community-based artworks.
Juha Vehmaanperä
Vehmaanperä graduated with a Master of Arts degree from Aalto University’s Fashion, Clothing and Textile Design programme. They have worked as a teacher at several art and design institutions, including Aalto University, Teho-Opisto and the Helsinki Adult Education Centre.
In November 2025, Vehmaanperä was awarded the Taito Finlandia Prize.
Vehmaanperä’s work has received wide international recognition and has been presented at major design and art events, including the Hyères International Festival of Fashion, Photography and Accessories in France, Dutch Design Week, Pitti Filati in Italy, New York Textile Month, and numerous other exhibitions across Europe. In addition, Vehmaanperä has worked as an intern in the knitwear team at Acne Studios in Stockholm, Sweden.
