Gallery spotlights contemporary makers
Alongside the new exhibition programme in March 2027, the museum will launch a series of gallery exhibitions that shifts the focus from history to the present day. The series opens with a joint exhibition by designer and artist Santeri Mortti and designer and visual artist Armi Teva.
The exhibition explores the significance of artistic craftsmanship from the perspective of contemporary makers at a time when speed and efficiency have become the norm. In addition to previously exhibited and new works, the exhibition features a collaborative piece created specifically for this occasion.
The exhibition examines contemporary image-making, art and design as constantly evolving processes in which unexpected outcomes are embraced as welcome surprises. The two artists are united by the humour woven into their work, as well as a shared appreciation for making by hand and craftsmanship.

Armi Teva
Helsinki-based visual artist and designer Armi Teva (b. 1992) studied ceramic and glass design as well as visual storytelling at Aalto University, graduating with a Master of Arts degree in 2019. Teva works across disciplines, focusing in recent years particularly on ceramic art and public artworks. At the heart of her practice is a passion for drawing. She uses a variety of media to create images, including clay, glazes, computers and gel pens. Her rich and humorous works are often characterised by subjects traditionally associated with femininity, decorative elements and a playful approach. Her work has been exhibited both in Finland and internationally, and she was awarded the Illustrator of the Year prize in 2026.

Santeri Mortti
Artist and designer Santeri Mortti (b. 1993) lives and works in Helsinki. He graduated with a Master of Arts degree from Aalto University’s Design programme in 2021.
Mortti works in sculpture, furniture design and embroidery, primarily using wood and textiles. His practice combines sculpture and design through an open-minded and experimental approach. Materials and hands-on making form the foundation of his work, and he considers it important to leave room for chance and unexpected turns within the creative process.

Designed & Loved
The Architecture & Design Museum Helsinki is undergoing a major transformation on its journey toward a new museum building, set to be completed in Helsinki’s South Harbor in 2030. Next spring, the museum will launch Designed & Loved, a new concept that will transform its current home on Korkeavuorenkatu, bringing exhibitions, events, and services together into a more seamless museum experience. At the heart of the renewed museum is an ambitious collection survey exhibition exploring the histories of Finnish architecture and design from multiple perspectives, created for both international visitors and local audiences.
The museum will temporarily close on 7 January 2027 while the transformation is carried out, reopening on 5 March 2027.
