Modern Helsinki – New Layers of the City, 1930–2018
During this architecture walking tour, we’ll explore aesthetics, materials, and the societal conditions that shaped the development of modern architecture in Helsinki from the 1930s to 2018. The tour introduces participants to the city centre’s fascinating office buildings, department stores, educational institutions, and other public buildings.
Come and discover Helsinki’s modernism beyond the surface.
The architecture walking tours are scripted by the experts of the Architecture & Design Museum Helsinki and guided by museum guides with in-depth knowledge of each theme.
The tours are part of the museum’s summer 2026 programme of public architecture walking tours, taking visitors through some of Helsinki’s most fascinating neighbourhoods.
